Course Description

This course is an introduction to the structure, function and acquisition of English. It is especially designed for people who are learning English as a second or foreign language. Students will focus on four things: the grammatical components of English; the function and variation of English as observed in its social and cultural contexts of use; the acquisition of English as a first or second language; and the comparison and contrast of English structure and use to the languages spoken by English language classrooms.
