EXEDUC 228 - Nature All Around: Optimizing Your Location for Engaging Environmental Education Experiences

Course Description

With budgets and resources already stretched, it is important to maximize environmental spaces that are readily available to educators/facilitators/community. In this course, you will learn to optimize spaces-no matter where you are located, and facilitate engaging environmental education experiences designed for all learners. During the course: Apply various methods of nature-based engagement for learners in nearby places and spaces Participate in learning events/activities that enhance efficacy in facilitating effective, engaging environmental education experiences in various settings Embrace field-based methods that inspire curiosity and experiential learning. Learn to engage their students in environmental explorations as co-researchers striving toward expert learning. Learn about, engage in, and get certified in facilitating the Project Learning Tree curriculum Collaborate with practitioners and create actionable next steps for application/facilitation of environmental education learning experiences grounded in UDL principles Enjoy a fun-filled exploration of how to use the spaces readily available as inviting locations for facilitating engaging environmental education experiences. By engaging in a step-by-step lesson design process with UDL, participants will learn to liven up their existing curriculum as well as design new and innovative learning experiences. Participants will be introduced to curriculum developed by Project Learning Tree, an initiative of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Curriculum guides will be provided at no additional cost thanks to grant funding provided through Project Learning Tree.
